I
don't really know how I got into this business. It just kind
of fell into place. I am pushing 30 now, but it seems like
just yesterday that I was trying to figure out the free web
site builder that was included with my parents' membership to
America Online. AOL had just made the jump from an hourly
charge to a monthly fee, and I was finally allowed to surf the
Internet at will. I was in the 8th grade, and like most of us
at the time, I was beyond a little excited to become part of
the Internet community.
I probably
spent 75% of my free-time online during my High School years
creating and maintaining a web site called Xr3. It was here
where I learned how to manage a domain, began to understand
how hosting worked, and dabbled with Photoshop constantly.
Most of my friends didn't have the net yet, but many of those
who did watched my page often and even chatted on my message
board (remember those?). Overall, it was a great learning
experience.
After
graduation, I started a rocknroll band and independent touring
left my wallet wanting. Since I was young and stupid, I was
unwilling to compromise my dreams by canceling tours to hold
down a job. I had already been doing all of the artwork and
production for my band, so I started asking friends if I could
do their bands' designing too. Soon enough, bands from all
over the country started calling me. I learned to do all sorts
of strange things, and had a lot of fun doing it. The more
creative the project, the happier I was. And somehow, all of
this eventually became Xoog Media. Xr3 was just simply too
weird and forgettable, but I couldn't resist using an X. :) |
